New Organizatio Structure

New Organizatio Structure

Postby Tom in Delaware » Tue Apr 28, 2009 5:37 pm

I was at the meeting on Sunday night and approve of the idea of the new umbrella with Jason as it's temporary head. I'm looking forward to our next meeting and can make it at anytime.

I suggest that our next collective event (not our next meeting which is in Dover)takes place in Old New Castle because of it's historic colonial past, especially if we're going to have a famous personality present and we could be televised.

I also think old New Castle is the place for the July 4th event unless there is one in Philidelphia.
Jason is fine for our temp. umbrella head untill we get more permenant structure! I would like to see 2 or 3 reps. for each county to meet quarterly so we can stay unified, once we get everything worked out.
I'm looking forward to working together in our common goals.
Sincerely,
Kevin Street

I mentioned the home in Lewes that was occupied by Sarah Rowland. It's not New Castle County, but it has historic significance as it is rumored possibly to be the location where Caesar Rodney received the correspondence from Philadelphia that led to his overnight ride.

That said, Old New Castle has much significance as it was the capitol of Delaware until the British encroached into Delaware and the capitol was moved south to Dover. The Thomas McKean House is there, along with the George Read House (Read opposed independence which led to McKean sending for Rodney to come to Philadelphia and break the tie for Delaware) and there is Battery Park with a significant area footprint as well as a spectacular river view.

I do think that Historic Old New Castle is a great setting for the 07/04 event, there may be some issues with having a Tea Party on that day as there are usually activities in the town for Independence Day. We most likely will have to check on that before proceeding. I live outside of New Castle, so I'm willing to make that contact if Chris Shirey gives me the ok. Cooch's Bridge may be another choice as it was the first battle of the Revolution where the Stars & Stripes was flown.

My only concern about Cooch's Bridge is that I don't believe there's much physical area to it. I live up the road from it and I believe the home there is a private residence and other than that, there's no infrastructure at all in the area so a large assembly would be a challenge if at all possible.

Personally, I recommend Old New Castle.

On a side note, I know a decendent of Caesar Rodney, and he is a conservative! Please me know if you would like him to be a part of the July 4 Tea Party activities.

Regarding where to have the 4th of July gathering; I concur with the responses that commented Old New Castle is busy and a tight area. Old Cooches area is a good alternative. I work for the DOT (I know...I share the sentiment of waste in government); we spent some money there a few years ago for a historical reenactment/celebration. Evidently Washington had a battle there. There is decent space there. I will need to find out how to access, its not private, but it is closed to public and the residence nearby is the Cooches (canons in front off Old Baltimore Pike).
